With a distance between axles 10 cm higher than its predecessor, the 991 is not only the most effective in the history of Porsche, but even more efficient. In addition, the start-stop em>, circulation "sailing" and recovery of electrical energy during braking, make it a car adapted to the times we live in today.
The 991 features include a new chassis, stiffer combining steel and aluminum, but less heavy (45 kg less than its predecessor). Another notable feature is its steering, which currently employs electric assistance, which is not common in sports cars. As its unique advantages, it can be mentioned its price and a slight reduction in consumption. In addition, the 991 could mount 20'' wheels, which was banned in this range, as even the 911 Turbo S wheels mounted 19'' or less.
With regard to aerodynamics, the mirrors are again mounted on the door, instead of going at the top of the windows, improving their performance at high speed. Furthermore, the new extensible spoiler now acts dynamically according to the vehicle speed.
The Carrera and Carrera S models are available with engines of 3.4 and 3.8 liters respectively. With regard to the Carrera, its power is 350 hp, which allows it to reach 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds in the version with seven relations double clutch PDK, or two tenths less if incorporates the optional package Sport Plus. For its part, the Carrera S has a not inconsiderable 400 horsepower and it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, also with PDK, or 4.1 if you have the Sport Plus button.
A very positive point of this new generation of 911 is to have a reduced consumption and emissions in this new model. The average figure approved by the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera with PDK is 8.2 L/100 km, something considerably low compared to its high performance; the 400 hp Carrera S recorded a 8.7 L/100 km equipped with the same transmission. Their emissions are 194 and 205 g/km respectively, being the new 911 Carrera the first who lowered of 200 g of CO2 emissions. It should be noted the technology in promoting such progress: admission is incorporated by direct injection, the start-stop em>, a more efficient thermal management function and recovery system power. In addition, the models incorporating PDK offer the "sailing", which disengages the transmission when the accelerator is released in slopes.
